Business Processes

A Business Process in UC-BoK is an end-to-end sequence of capabilities and services that delivers a measurable outcome to a customer or business actor. Each process spans multiple domains and is formally modelled in catalogs/processes.yaml.

PROC-001 Ontology

Processes are classified into four archetypes:

Archetype Purpose Trigger
Transactional Create a commercial commitment — order confirmed and payment authorised Customer or associate action
Fulfilment Execute the physical movement of goods Domain event (e.g. order-routed)
Post-Sale Resolve post-delivery actions — returns, exchanges, refunds Customer or associate action
Engagement Build or deepen the customer relationship Customer action

Each process entry specifies:

  • classification — archetype (above)
  • trigger / trigger-event — what initiates the process
  • outcome — measurable business result
  • capabilities — UC-BoK capabilities involved (cross-referenced to capabilities.yaml)
  • domains — domain boundary coverage
  • applications — application archetypes required
